How to make a bespoke rug for your homE
You should always put your own stamp on your home, whether that be by adding a splash of your favourite paint, making your own cushions, or simply hanging prints that help to inject a bit of personality. It’s all about making your house a home and creating living spaces that work for you and your family. A great way to add personality to your home is by creating a bespoke rug; not only will you be able to choose its material, colour and style, but you can also pick the right size and shape for the space you have.
How to create a bespoke rug
First things first, you’ve got to have a clear understanding of the style of rug you’d like. Think about the room it’s going in; what colours are you working with? Will a patterned rug bring the room to life, or make it look overcrowded? If you need some design inspiration, have a look at some ideas here, or browse of our online shop.
It’s also important to think about the type of material you opt for; if you plan on having your new rug in an area of high traffic, you’re probably going to need a more durable material, especially if people are likely to walk over it in shoes.
Of course, you’ve got to measure up your space to get the right dimensions for your new bespoke rug. You don’t want to swamp your room, but you also don’t want one that resembles a doormat! You could use masking tape to map out where in your room the rug will be to ensure you get a size you’re happy with. You must get this right before moving forward.
Use our bespoke rug service
We’ve teamed up with Alternative Flooring to offer an online bespoke rug making service. Simple and easy to use, you can click through all of the different options to design exactly what you have in mind.
Firstly, you pick the design for the centre of the rug. Have a browse through all of the different colours, patterns and textures to find the right one for your home. From floral to geometric, spots to stripes, and even animal print, there’s loads to choose from!
Once you’ve chosen the centre design of your rug, you can then move on to select whether you’d like a ‘single’ or ‘whipped’ style border. ‘Single’ is a 50mm wide border, whereas ‘whipped’ means a band of wool will be stitched around the edges of your rug, which strengthens and protects it. After choosing your border and its colour, you move onto the final step, which is simply entering the correct dimensions. You can either choose from pre-selected sizes – 1.8m x 1.2m, 2.4m x 1.5m, or 3.0m x 2.0m – or enter your specific measurements.
Finally, you can order some samples of your bespoke rug, or go ahead and place your order. It’s as simple as that!
