How to get inspired for your next interiors project
Whether you are a renter or a homeowner, you may be thinking of new design ideas for your home to give it a refresh. From colours and fabrics to rugs and carpet inspiration, it can be hard to know where to start, especially if you’re faced with a blank canvas. In this blog post, we’ll reveal our top tips on how you can get inspired and make changes in your home that are right for you.
1. Instagram and Pinterest
These are the go-to online destinations for gaining inspiration for home projects. On Instagram, you will find lots of home accounts, owned by people who want to share their interior design journeys. Discover our favourite accounts here. There are lots of photographs of everyday homes, transformed into a plethora of personal styles. If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend following:
Pinterest works just as Google does, except on a visual level. Type into the search bar what you would like to see, for example ‘carpet inspiration’ or ‘home interiors’, and it will return relevant photographs from around the internet. You can then ‘pin’ your favourites into your own collection, known as a ‘board’. This is a fantastic way to get inspired!
2. Browse Antique Shops
If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, why not peruse your local antique shops to find something unique? Not only is this a sustainable way of shopping, but it will also add character to your interiors. Even if you don’t end up buying anything, looking around antique shops could just spark off ideas; they’re often full of gems!
3. Visit a Showroom
We don’t just mean popping down to IKEA! You can get some wonderful inspiration from visiting interior shops and showrooms. Whether you’re looking for furniture, wallpaper or carpet inspiration, it’s bound to get the ideas flowing. When you visit us here at Rowe Carpets, our expert team will be on-hand to discuss your next design project and will be able to advise you on the best carpets, rugs, flooring and stair runners for your home. It’s a great place to bounce ideas around and we’re always happy to help! You’ll find us on Green Street in Kidderminster.
4. Visit your Friends and Family’s Homes
If you know someone who’s made similar changes to their home, it could trigger more ideas for your next interiors project. If they’re open to it, it’s also a good opportunity to get a talk about budgets, as well as recommendations for designers, decorators and the like.
If you’re not sure what type of design or style to go for, the best thing to do is experiment. Try sampling different paint colours, fabrics and even prints and ornaments. You’ll get to know what feels ‘right’ to you, and what fits best in your home. Of course, making changes before you’ve made a final decision can seem like a daunting prospect, but if you start with budget-friendly, small alterations, they can often spark further ideas.
