2021 Interior Trends
As we all say goodbye – or good riddance! – to 2020, we can look forward to a year of (hopefully) better news and positivity. From injecting more colour with patterned carpets and rugs, to adding more personality to a room, there are lots of ways you can brighten up your home in line with 2021’s trends.
Colour, colour, colour!
Enough of the greys; make room for a splash of colour. January is gloomy enough, let’s inject a bit of vibrancy. Whether you opt for a complete transformation, or just introduce a few colourful elements, such as prints, rugs or cushions, add more of your favourite colours to your home this year. Look out for navy blue – it’s sure to be a statement of 2021.
With the growing importance of upcycling, recycling and re-using sustainable materials, we’re expecting this to filter through to the design of our homes even more this year. If you’re a dab hand at DIY, or enjoy a bit of arts and crafts, you’ll be pleased to know that your skills will come in handy! Buy second-hand furniture and give it a new lease of life, make patchwork cushions from old clothes, or invest in quality carpet and rugs which stand the test of time.
Cosy and homely
After the year we’ve had, the need for comfort, nostalgia and cosy interiors has become very important for many. ‘Cottagecore’ has been somewhat of a revolution on social media recently, which encapsulates an aesthetic of slow living, country houses, warm interiors and escapism. Similarly, to the Scandinavian concept, ‘hygge’, cottagecore is about making your interiors calm, relaxing and enjoyable. Since the UK’s national lockdown, more and more ‘cottagecore’ styles have been sprouting up, presenting isolation and staying at home in a more romanticised way. So, we can expect this style to stick around through into 2021. Think cosy carpets and rugs, warm colours, pampas grass and candles.
The quirkier the better!
If cosy, quaint country homes aren’t really your vibe, go bold. Mix your patterns or pair up clashing colours, however you decide to add in your personality, make sure it packs a punch! Plus, we’re expecting spring/summer of 2021 to be all about maximalism, be sure to embrace layering and take a few risks! If you’re new to this, why not start by layering pattern-on-pattern cushions? Before you know it, you’ll be styling your room around your favourite patterns!
